While the vehicle was being operated under normal driving conditions, the hood unexpectedly disengaged and flew upward from the windshield side of the vehicle. This sudden and dangerous event substantially obstructed the driver's visibility and created an immediate risk of catastrophic injury, death, and property damage. Fortunately, no collision occurred; however, the potential consequences of such a failure are self-evident.

The contact stated that the vehicle corrected itself after an extended period of time, and the instrument cluster froze. The contact stated that the vehicle was sluggish while driving and made an abnormal sound while accelerating. The local dealer was contacted, but declined to inspect the vehicle because the recall repair part was not yet available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
