The contact owns a 2004 Jaguar XJ. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal felt spongy and an excessive amount of force was needed to depress the brake pedal. The brake pedal almost went to the floorboard before the vehicle came to a stop, causing the braking distance to be extended. The message that the brake fluid level was low remained illuminated. There was brake fluid leaking from a fractured cross-member brake pipe. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who found that the underfloor tray was corroded, causing the floor to fracture. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V144000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

I WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AND A FRIEND WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL CAR TOLD ME ABOUT A RECALL ON THEIR CAR FOR THE SAME PROBLEM . THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY PADDING INSTALLED FOR SOUND PROOFING ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH TRAPS DIRT AND MOISTURE AND CAUSES THE BRAKE LINES TO PREMATURELY RUST WHICH I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH. AFTER HAVING THE PANELS REMOVED FOR INSPECTION IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE PADS ARE INSTALL ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND THE RUST ISSUE IS PRESENT AS WELL . WHEN I ENTERED MY VIN NUMBER INTO YOUR SYSTEM IT'S TELLING ME THERE ARE NO OPEN OR IN REPAIRED RECALLED ON MY CAR HOW COULD THAT BE?

IN THE JUST OVER 3 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR I HAVE HAD 2 INCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR ACCELERATES AND ENGINE RACES WHEN BRAKING AT A LOW SPEED MAKING A TURN ON A SIDE STREET. I TRY TO BRING THE TO A STOP BUT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DO AS THE BRAKES ARE NOT FULLY STOPPING THE CAR AND BOTH TIMES I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK QUICKLY IN OTHER TO COMPLETELY STOP IT WHICH BROUGHT IT TO A JERKING HALT. THERE IS SOME DEFECT IN THIS MODEL AS I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS SIMILAR STORIES ON A JAGUAR PROBLEMS WEBSITE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I WAS LUCKY BOTH TIMES TO BE ON SIDE STREETS AS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED AS I IT TOOK ME A FEW SECONDS TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP AS I DID NOT HAVE FULL CONTROL OF CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL JAGUAR IN GLEN COVE NY IN JULY AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE INCIDENT AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. LIKE I SAID AT THE BEGINNING THIS ONLY HAPPENED TWICE IN 3 YEARS BUT I ONLY DRIVE 1000 TO 2000 MILES A YEAR AND TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH I AM AFRAID...
