Fuel/propulsion System
09/03/2026
I am reporting a potential fuel/fire safety defect involving TWO brand-new 2027 Infiniti QX80s. My first QX80 developed a strong raw-gasoline odor after driving/shutdown, especially when parked in my residential garage. I repeatedly reported this to Infiniti. Various explanations were given, including Arizona heat and gasoline formulation. The dealer ultimately exchanged the vehicle. The replacement 2027 QX80 developed substantially the SAME gasoline odor after only about 12 miles from the dealership to my home. I returned it for evaluation. On XXX, Infiniti on Camelback inspected the replacement vehicle. This is no longer based solely on my observation. Their final repair order documents my complaint of “fuel smell coming from the rear driver side wheel area” and, importantly, states their inspector “had a fuel smell at the time of check in and in the shop while sitting in the shop.” The dealer found no codes or visible fuel leak. Therefore, an Infiniti dealer independently detected...

I purchased a new 2027 Infiniti QX80 Autograph, VIN [XXX], from Infiniti of [XXX] on XXX with approximately 10 miles. On XXX, the day after purchase, I contacted the dealer because I noticed a strong raw gasoline/fuel-vapor odor after driving the vehicle, shutting it off, and parking it inside my garage. The dealer initially advised me to wait 4-5 days because the vehicle was new and suggested the odor might resolve. The odor persisted. The vehicle had approximately 300 miles when the problem continued. I returned to the dealer and was advised that the fuel tank and/or EVAP canister might need replacement and that parts could take weeks, with no definite repair timeline. The suspected affected system is the fuel/EVAP system, including the fuel tank, EVAP canister, vapor-control system, fuel-system venting, or related components. The exact cause is UNKNOWN. The vehicle was available for dealer inspection. I am concerned because a strong raw gasoline/fuel-vapor odor in an enclosed res...

I am filing this complaint regarding my replacement 2027 Infiniti QX80 Autograph, VIN [XXX]. My original new 2027 QX80 developed a strong raw gasoline/fuel-vapor odor shortly after purchase. I reported it to Infiniti of Scottsdale on XXX, one day after purchase. The dealer initially advised me to wait 4-5 days because the vehicle was new. The odor persisted, and the dealer later advised that the fuel tank and/or EVAP canister might need replacement. I filed NHTSA Case No. XXXfor that first vehicle. Infiniti of Scottsdale provided this replacement QX80 on XXX. Within one day, the replacement vehicle developed the same strong raw gasoline/fuel-vapor odor, especially after driving, shutting the vehicle off, and parking it inside my garage. I returned the replacement vehicle to the dealer on XXX because of the same condition. The suspected affected system is the fuel/EVAP system, including the fuel tank, EVAP canister, vapor-control system, or related components. The exact cause in the r...
