2022 Ford Maverick Complaints

When driving at normal speed, my truck completely shut down with no warning. The instrument panel went dark and the engine shut off. I do not believe I was able to steer, though I think the brakes allowed me to slow the vehicle to a stop. I was near an intersection, so I was lucky to not have been hit from the rear or run in to traffic in front of me. The vehicle was unresponsive and would not turn back on. I was stuck blocking 1 lane of traffic for an hour because the vehicle could not be steered or taken out of gear to push it to the side of the road. I inspected the battery connection and nothing seemed out of place or degraded while trying to get the car out of the road. Highway Patrol also looked, but only was able to offer a tow truck as a solution. My truck has been at the dealer service for almost 2 days awaiting inspection at this point so I have no additional information on what caused this dangerous situation. I have a 2022 Ford Maverick XL Hybrid and the system that failed is the rear lighting system, specifically the tail lamps, brake lamps, and rear turn signals. This appears to be related to the Body Control Module (BCM) software, which was the subject of Ford Recall 24S27 affecting many 2022–2024 Ford Mavericks. The failure began on my vehicle with the left rear tail lamp assembly (running light, brake light, and turn signal), and within approximately two minutes the right rear tail lamp assembly also stopped functioning. Since that time, the entire rear lighting system has been inoperative while driving. This issue creates an extremely serious safety hazard. While driving, my vehicle has no functioning rear running lights, brake lights, or turn signals. This means other drivers cannot see when I am braking, signaling a turn, or even driving at night. The rear brake lights intermittently do not work, but at the same time the middle third light brake light works fine. also the turn signals work fine. People will rear end me if they don’t see my brake lights. I am a retired, master mechanic, and my son is also a mechanic. We have both looked into this problem and it possibly could be either a module or the turn signal switch. I had no warning of this problem coming on other than someone telling me my rear brake lights stopped working when they were following me. This is a very dangerous situation.

In cold weather -6F The cover over the positive terminal used to jump start the vehicle is impossible to remove. This causes a situation where the vehicle can not be jump started or render assistance to another that needs jump started. The issue stems from the fact that the plastic cover over the positive terminal is unable to bend when it is cold and can not be "unclipped".

This is a complaint of Sheridan Ford in Wilmington DE specifically refusing to complete the recall without my paying out of pocket. Manufacturer Recall Number24S59 NHTSA Recall Number24V684 was left incomplete because they demanded I pay for a "diagnostic" fee on a known safety issue - this dealership is taking advantage of a saftey recall that is required to force customers to pay
